PMS?! Leafy Greens Provide Relief

Leafy Greens Provide Relief

DeepGreen Alkalising SuperfoodIt’s a subject that we don’t like to talk about much, but for many women, it crops up regularly.

Monthly in fact.

But there is good news for women for whom this topic is more than just a matter-of-fact issue.

10 year study, released by the University of Massachusetts, examined the dietary habits of women, has has discovered that women who regularly consume green leafy vegetables are less likely to suffer from the symptoms of PMS than those who did not.

They speculate that it is the combination of iron and zinc found in green leafy vegetables and dried beans that makes a difference.

While the first instinct might be to reach for a supplement table, other medical practitioners are sounding a word of caution.

Clinical nutritionist Samantha Heller, at the NYU Center for Musculoskeletal Care, agreed. “It’s important to speak with your physician before supplementing with any minerals,” she said. “Too much iron can cause serious problems, and supplementing with something like zinc can knock your copper balance off. There’s a delicate balance in the body, and women need to be very thoughtful before they start using supplements.”

If you have PMS symptoms that you would like to alleviate, we recommend trying Miessence Superfoods every day – particularly DeepGreen Alkalising Superfood and InLiven Probiotic Superfood.

DeepGreen Alkalising Superfood is an excellent way of getting additional deep leafy greens into you diet in a convenient, once a day serving.

Little Changes Make A Big Impact

He who has health, has hope; and he who has hope, has everything.
— Thomas Carlyle

There should be no greater motivation to take control over your health and fitness than the words of the 19th century Scottish philosopher above.

But why should our health be connected to our hope?Vitality Challenge with Miessence Superfoods

The answer to that is that when we are fit and healthy, the world is full of possibilities – nothing is beyond our reach. Trek through the Andes? No problem. Helping a friend move house? When do we start?

If you are in an older age bracket, or know people who are, there can be often a form of mourning as realisation hits that there are things that one used to be able to do that are now out of reach.

Even professional sports people who have spent most of their lives in peak physical condition are susceptible to this unless there is an effective transition process in place to manage the physical and psychological adjustment.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
— Proverbs

So given what we know about the link of good food habits and optimism, shouldn’t we be giving ourselves every opportunity to maximise our health potential for as long as possible?

The great news is that is not too late to start on making those changes that will make a difference to your health, fitness and well-being – all of which will give you the promise of ‘everything’ mentioned in the second half of Thomas Carlyle’s quote.

Recent research has identified that regular exercise from childhood can stave off dementia in old age and increase brain power.

In fact any regular exercise at any age can protect the brain. Even as little as five minutes a day can make all the difference.

In addition to exercise, we should be focusing our attention to effective nutrition to create the ‘healthy hope’ we all want.

According to Dr. Deepak Chopra, the author of Quantum Healing, we replace 98% of all our cells inside of ONE YEAR. Food For Thought…

Recently released research adds to the increasingly strong body of evidence that improper nutrition may be behind a large spike in reported cases of behavioural disorders in children.

A high-fat diet may be linked to the hyperactivity disorder ADHD and learning disabilities, new research suggests.

The effect is so profound that eating lots of fatty food for even a week can cause behavioural changes – even before any weight gain sets in.

The researchers, from the University of Illinois, found that mice fed a high-fat diet (60 per cent of calories from fat) versus a low fat diet (10 per cent) behaved very differently.

A typical Western diet contains between 35 and 45 per cent fat.

‘We found that a high-fat diet rapidly affected dopamine metabolism in the brains of juvenile mice, triggering anxious behaviors and learning deficiencies,’ said Gregory Freund, a professor in the university’s Division of Nutritional Sciences.

Back in 2006, a medical study on probiotics for autism proved so successful that the study ‘failed’.

The study, by Prof Glenn Gibson at Reading University, UK, found that autistic children vastly improved their concentration and behavior when given probiotics, or ‘friendly bacteria’.

It involved 40 autistic children, aged 4 to 8, half of whom were given the probiotic bacteria L. Plantanum while the other half received a dummy ‘probiotic’.

It was supposed to have been a blind study, where the participants were not told who were taking the actual probiotics and who were taking placebos or dummy medicine.

As part of this probiotics for autism study, parents were asked to record their children’s mood and behavior in a diary.

The results were too obvious.

Parents whose autistic children were taking the actual probiotics saw such great improvements in their children’s behavior that they knew their children were taking the real thing.

Thus, problems arose during the ‘crossover’ point of this probiotics for autism study, where the two groups were supposed to switch medicines. Many of the parents whose children were taking the actual probiotics refused to make the switch as they wanted their autistic children to continue their improvement.

One parent said it was “heartbreaking” to have to stop their child taking it.
